Acrylic Care, Handling & Storage
Handle your acrylic item the same way you would glass or a mirror.
Acrylic’s impact resistance makes it well suited to signs and boards, but impact resistance does not mean scratch resistance. Its surface can scratch more easily than ordinary glass, and acrylic can still chip or crack.
Lift—never slide
Always lift your item when moving it. Never slide or drag it across a table, floor, counter, wall, or other surface.
Place it only on a clean, soft, padded surface. Make sure the padding is free of grit, loose hardware, and other objects.
Never:
- Place tools, hardware, boxes, decorations, or other objects on top of the item.
- Stack unprotected acrylic pieces together.
- Rub the acrylic against a wall while positioning it.
- Bend, twist, drop, or force the item into place.
Support the item while moving it and avoid pressure on corners, edges, or mounting holes.
Inspect promptly; protect until use
Inspect your order as soon as it arrives, following Inspecting Your Order & Reporting a Problem.
After inspection, return your item to protective wrapping until you are ready to use or install it. Leave removable film on during storage. When you are ready to install it, you may peel the film immediately before mounting or after mounting where practical. Either is fine: once uncovered, handle the surface carefully and do not leave the item unprotected where it will be moved, shuffled or have objects placed on it. Film does not replace protective cushioning.
Store the item securely with adequate support and cushioning, away from heat and locations where it could fall or have objects placed on it.
Use protective packaging when transporting it to an event or another location. Share these instructions with anyone handling your item.
Protective film
Temporary protective film may appear clear, tinted, cloudy, or brown.
Follow your product’s instructions to identify which film should be removed. Do not peel printed artwork, applied lettering, permanent coatings, or mirror backing.
Gently lift a corner of removable film with your fingernail and peel carefully. Do not scrape the surface with blades or sharp tools.
If you are unsure which layer is removable, contact us before proceeding.
Cleaning
For acrylic writing surfaces, start with a clean, soft, nonabrasive cloth lightly dampened with water. Use gentle pressure and a separate clean cloth to dry the surface.
Allow the board to dry completely before writing again.
Avoid abrasive pads, gritty cloths, paper towels, household glass cleaners, alcohol, acetone, and other harsh solvents. Use other cleaning products only if approved for your particular item and finish.
Printed, mirrored, or decorated surfaces may need different care. Do not scrub, polish, or use scratch-removal products on those surfaces without our guidance.
Markers
Use markers suitable for your board and follow their preparation and cleaning instructions.
The markers included with our boards and sold on our website have been thoroughly tested and are the markers we recommend. We do not recommend other brands or guarantee their performance or erasability. Ink can become harder to remove the longer it remains on the board, including our recommended markers. Staining or damage caused by incompatible markers does not qualify for a complimentary board replacement.
If ink is difficult to remove, contact us before trying stronger cleaners or abrasive methods.
Installation
Follow the instructions for your specific hardware. Keep the acrylic protected from walls, tools, and loose hardware while positioning it.
Do not overtighten mounting hardware or force the item into place. Contact us before attempting to straighten, modify, drill, or repair it.
Damage after delivery
Damage caused by improper handling, storage, cleaning, transportation, or installation is not covered by complimentary replacement.
Examples include scratches from sliding an item, placing objects on it, stacking unprotected pieces, using incompatible cleaners, bending the material, or overtightening hardware.
