Chalk Markers

Prime your chalk marker before its first use so the ink can reach the tip.

Get your marker ready

  1. Shake the marker with the cap on, then remove the cap.
  2. Hold the marker upright with its tip pointing down. On a piece of scrap paper, press the tip firmly into the marker until you feel resistance. Do not force it past that point.
  3. Wait for ink to fill the tip. This usually takes 5–10 seconds, but can take longer. If no ink appears after about 10 seconds, recap, shake again and repeat.
  4. Test the marker on the scrap paper before writing on your board. A fully inked tip produces a more opaque color.
  5. If the color begins to look lighter during use, repeat the priming steps to refill the tip.

Prime on scrap paper rather than pressing the tip against your acrylic board. Use the markers supplied with your board or sold on our website; other brands have not been tested by us and may stain the surface.
